1956 Consecration
On Monday, July 9th, 1956 there gathered at Chingford Masonic Hall a group of 106 Brethren which was made up of the team of Consecrating Officers led by the Provincial Grand Master of Essex, R.W. Bro. Rev. Canon Stafford Morris supported by the Founders, 17 in number and many distinguished visitors including a Brother from Australia, The Sponsoring Lodge, Lucton No, 3353 was well represented and several senior members occupied the principal Chairs for the preliminary Opening before the Consecrating Officers entered in procession and took over the main proceedings. It is proposed in the following pages to give a brief account of each year from 1956 onwards so that Brethren may get some idea of how the Lodge has grown in spite of the vicissitudes with which any group must contend with over time and competing interests. It is appropriate to mention first the untiring work which went into the preparations for the Consecration and that everything went off so smoothly was in no small measure due to the work of W.Bro. Ernie Woods, LGR our First Master, W.Bro. Bernard Morgan, the First Senior Warden and W.Bro. Tom Peacock the First Secretary. Our badge was designed and presented by Bro. Laurie Chappell who also gave the embroidered cushion which is still in use and later a magnificent miniature Tracing Board hand painted by himself. Small wonder that Bro. Laurie was later to be appointed Grand Superintendent of Works for the Province of Essex . Other Brethren who have served the Lodge and Freemasonry well will no doubt appear in later pages of this document as they play their part in the building up and development of the Lodge.
1956-57 W.M. ERNEST JOHN WOODS LGR
The first meeting after the Consecration took place in October 1956. The Lodge got off to a good start with 4 Joining Members, Bros. Wingrove, WT Hart and the brothers Bros. George and Ron Shephard together with 3 Candidates for Initiation. Two of these Bros. GR Redcliffe and GA Bartram were Initiated. In addition the By-Laws were approved and the formation of a Lodge of Instruction was sanctioned. The W.M. who had himself done such good work as Preceptor and to whom many of the Brethren present owed much of their own proficiency in the ritual, was particularly interested in the prompt formation of the L.O.I and this has been an important factor in the standard of the work in the Lodge over the past years. It is of interest to note that the mantle of W.Bro. Woods was to fall on the shoulders of his nephew W.Bro. Norman Gard, the first Director of Ceremonies of the Lodge and, for many years, the Preceptor of the Lodge of Instruction. The work in Lodge was concluded by the W.M. calling on Bro. J.W. to assist him in working the First Section of the First Lecture. In November Bros. Redcliffe and Bartram were passed and W.Bro. Bill Denby was given the privilege of Initiating his son Brian together with Bro. FL Baker. Bro. Chappell presented the aforementioned cushion for the V.S.L. It was agreed to hold a Ladies Festival. The final meeting saw the Raising of Bros. Redcliffe and Bartram. The miniature T.B. came into use for the first time. Bros. FT Major and R Dann were Initiated and W.Bro. Ben Modley presented a case for the Warrant.

Parker had not recovered from his illness and our revered and much respected First Master, W.Bro. Ernie Woods LGR, had also passed on to the Grand Lodge above. He left behind a stable and secure Lodge which owed so much to his presence and assistance. It was perhaps unfortunate that he was not to live long enough to receive an honour from the Province which almost certainly would soon have been awarded to him. W.Bro. Joe Hill carried out a full programme during the year. Bro. Strutt was Raised, Bros. FR Welham and L Owen were Initiated, Passed and Raised. Bros. Pearson and Blair were Initiated and Passed. W.Bro.
